NEW! Fundamentals of Structural Design
■Course Content■
【1】Structural Design: The Invisible Core
We will clarify the relationship between architectural design, structure, and equipment, and understand the role of structural design. We will also learn how to balance cost, performance, and aesthetic design, as well as the importance of trust and performance explanations.
【2】S-Structure vs. RC-Structure: Key Differences
We will explain the differences between Steel Structure and Reinforced Concrete Structure in terms of weight, sound, and seismic force. Let's understand how the structural type influences building performance.
【3】Live Load: The Force on Your Floor
We will explain the definition of live load (vertical loads such as people and furniture). Then, we will describe the concept of design values, which incorporate a safety margin greater than the actual expected weight, to ensure safety.
【4】Live Load for Floor Design
We will learn about the live load (how much weight the floor can support) that must be considered when designing a floor. Through practical examples, we will understand why seemingly excessive values are set.
【5】Load Transmission: Floor to Foundation
We will explain how the weight placed on the floor is transferred from beams to columns and then to the foundations. We will learn about the mechanism of load distribution throughout the structure and the design values (numerical guidelines for safe structural design).
【6】Understanding Seismic Forces
The seismic force applied to a building is proportional to its "weight." Through the concept of Seismic Live Load, we will explain how to calculate the overall seismic force applied to the building and the fundamental seismic design principle of treating the load as uniform, without considering load eccentricity or bias.
【7】Beam Depth vs. Span: The Relationship
How does beam depth (beam height) change depending on the span (distance)? Based on those guidelines, we will learn the relationship between beam depth and cost.
