NEW! Design Fundamentals for the Field
■Course Content■
【1】Design & Supervision Overview
You will learn about the flow of an architectural project from planning to maintenance.
Deepen your understanding of the architect's roles in each phase, as well as project management, quality control, budget management, and client communication.
The end goal is to confirm the comprehensive perspective (the big picture) required of a licensed architect.
【2】Practical Work in the Planning and Design Phases
This session covers site surveys, project plan support, basic concept formulation, and construction cost management.
You will review the process from rough estimates (budgets) to detailed quantity surveying (cost estimation), and gain a deeper understanding of practical challenges such as cost management and management of design changes.
【3】From Design to Supervision and Maintenance
You will learn about the differences between schematic design and construction documents (design development).
You will learn to understand construction procurement methods, select contractors, and undertake the role of a site supervisor, including checking shop drawings and attending inspections.
Furthermore, you will study post-completion topics such as maintenance, periodic inspections, and future planning.
【4】Architectural Law & Regulations
This session covers principal architectural laws. Specifically, we will deepen our understanding of the Building Standard Law, the Architects' Act, and City Planning Act. We will also examine related laws (Civil Law, Penal Law, Copyright Law, Design Law, and Patent Law) and emphasize legal compliance through actual violation case examples.
【5】Professional Ethics and Service Fee Structures
This session explores the professional ethics and responsibilities required of an architect.
You will deepen your understanding of disciplinary procedures and the Architect's Charter.
Furthermore, we will examine the methods for calculating professional fees (including detailed estimation and simplified calculation methods) and clarify the difference between standard services and additional services.
【6】Roles & Initial Design Process
This session will clarify the division of professional roles, such as architectural design, structural engineering, and facility/MEP design.
You will learn how to accurately grasp the client's requirements (purpose, scale, and budget) and deepen your understanding of site conditions (societal, natural, and legal constraints).
Furthermore, we will cover how to identify key planning issues and subsequently formulate a design concept.
【7】Materializing the Plan
This session will deepen your understanding of the importance of site planning, zoning, and traffic flow planning.
You will also acquire fundamental knowledge about building structure and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
【8】Design, Cost, and Support Tools
This session covers exterior and interior design and facility planning.
You will gain an understanding of cost design methods that consider both initial cost (IC) and life cycle cost (LCC).
Furthermore, we will introduce communication methods such as perspective drawings, physical models, and mock-ups, and review the use of design support tools, including checklists and standard detail drawing collections.
